Abstract: The pap test: Psychological barriers

·  Background information: The Papanicolaou test is a screening test used in gynecology to detect pre-malignant and malignant (cancerous) processes in the ectocervix. Is a small sample of tissue. Women among twenty to sixty four years old must make this test once a year.

·  Aim: The objective is to discover what are the psychological barriers that impede to women to take the pap test. This topic is of interest because in Chile, after many years of campaign, the goal of a coverage increase had not been reached. This is very serious considering that this test is important for early detection of cervical cancer, a disease that causes many deaths each year in Chile.

·  Methods: The method was to interview 200 women in sectors where de campaign was not successful (Cerro navia, Puente alto, La pintana, Maipú.)

·  Results: Discover that there some physiological barriers in the women that impede to women to take this test, like fear, shame, wrong beliefs, wrong information and lack of information.

·  Discussion: National health organizations must to evaluate the work of health’ professionals must to evaluate the work of health professionals to improve the adherence of women to prevention programs.

·  Conclusions: Is necessary a change of strategy and better communication to overcome these psychological problems. Also give general information on the exam and on cervical cancer, That is, that the information we consider these barriers.

The Pap test (papanuculau): psychological barriers 

After many campaings to promote the Pap Test,  among 25 to 64 yeard old women, the situation has not improved. This is because women do not go to health services to take the exam. So, is important that health professionals have strategies to improve the situation.
The aim of this investigation is to know why the woman do not go to take this test, very important in the prevention of fatal diseases.
The method was to interview 200 women in  sectors where the campaign was not successful.
The results were: fear, shame, erroneus beliefs and wrong information.
Is necessary a change of strategy and better comunication to overcome these psychological problems.

Right now, I'm at home, a little angry because I have many duties pending and want to sleep. I live with my mother, my father, my sister and my dog. Their names are Nelly, Jorge, Ivette and Lupin, respectively. All of them are very special, and sometimes unbearable, but I love them, especially to Lupin, he is more nice that my mom, that my sister and that my dad.
The name of my sister I chose 14 years ago. I liked it because it was the name of TV host, a program that I liked, called "Hugo". Ja JA Ja JAaa! that makes me laugh!
My dad works all day, but a few hours for day. My mom works only on weekends. You see, they like to be at home and sleep, including me.
Lupin sleeps all day and all night with my, with mom or whit my dad, never with my sister.Lupin is very beautiful and hairy. In the winter is very warm, so everyone wants to sleep with him.
I am studying Obstetrics and like a lot, because I will help many women in the most important moment of their lives, when they are young, when they are older ... I also have the authority in maternity, and I like that. Je Je JEe!
On weekends I like going to the cinema, or eat an ice cream or pizza. But today is Sunday and I'm home, I can not leave because I have to study too much. That is very sad. On weekends will go to the gym, I try not to miss, to have a healthy and able to wear bikinis in the summer.
